For over a century, James Elementary has been a landmark of education in the Historic Northeast of Kansas City.
Our vision is simple, to be the best school for our community and neighborhood and honor and serve the students and families of the Northeast. To achieve this vision, we live by our mission, which is to build an inclusive environment for all students to grow into productive members of our community.
Grades:
PreK-6
Pre-K program serves students ages 3-5 and promotes independent learning and exploration to provide students the tools needed to enter Kindergarten ready to learn and to help your child grow as a lifelong learner. Students must be three or four years old on or before July 31 to qualify for Pre-K.
School Hours:
K-6th: 8:20 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.
Pre-K: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

- Science focused curriculum and instruction K to 6: All students receive hands-on science lab instruction weekly in science lab classroom
- Free Before and After School Child Care (LINC)
- Free Breakfast and Lunch for all Students
- One-to-One Apple Devices K-6
- Intensive Instructional Support for English Language Learners (ELL)
- Mentoring partnerships for students
- Strong community and family focus led by Parent School Advisory Council
- School programs with community partners Lead to Read, Mattie Rhodes, Hazel Health, and The Kansas City Royals Literacy League
